Healthy is the New Goal 3

Hey! It’s Jenn from Heart of Wellness! Let’s continue our talks about how healthy is the new goal! We all set goals for ourselves and some we achieve and some we let fall by the wayside.  That’s just human nature! So let’s get in to how we can make our goals achievable! First and very importantly,  Please remember to add one new goal at a time! When we try to change too many things at once, we are basically setting ourselves up for failure.  No one likes failure and even though it’s not really your fault you’ve failed, we feel awful when we don’t complete our goals and might throw away what we have accomplished in frustration.  We are working towards progress, not perfection!

So by definition habit stacking basically means combining a new habit with one you have already established.  So you brush your teeth every morning and you want to add something to your morning routine- maybe it’s a yoga stretch or maybe it’s adding a new supplement you like- so you get up and as you walk in to the bathroom, you find that YouTube channel that you like with the perfect morning stretch or you open that supplement bottle that you keep right next to your toothpaste- get it? Ok, here’s some of my habit stacking routines- as I brew my coffee, I make a quick green drink in the magic bullet.  I keep the Kurig and the bullet right next to each other, no matter where I go! It’s such a great way to get in some quick veggies! Some days I use fresh greens and if I’m in a hurry I use my doterra or beach body greens.  Another way I’ve stacked a habit is every day around 3 o’clock I would feel hungry and tired and I would reach for coffee and something sugary to make me feel better, so now I deliberately reach for a bottle of water first, then -a few apple slices for some sweetness! I’m still eating and if I want that cup of coffee after that- I have it! I just use decaf.  Usually the Apple and water will perk me right up but as I’ve said before, don’t take away things you love – and I love coffee- just crowd them out! See, it all works together! Now, as I always say, getting healthy isn’t just about food! Health is a state of mind too. So another habit I’ve stacked is journaling about my day before I go to sleep.  I keep a notebook on my bedside table and write in it every night.  A lot of people I went to school with use this time to reflect with gratitude or prayer or even meditation.  This a perfect time to unwind, reflect, be grateful and shut your brain down.  Journaling helps me to get all the thoughts out of my head and sleep better.  So we all go to bed, I know not all of us sleep, but we can talk about that another time and you know what, these new habits will help you sleep! As things change in your life, you will find your mind quiets down, your body responds better to rest and all a whole lot of other things but I digress- so anyway we all are in the habit of going to bed at night so add a healthy habit here! Habit stacking is supposed to be easy! Grab on to something you already do without thought and add something new! Just remember to only add one thing at a time!
